3 surgeries finished!

Because of limited funds, the mobile clinic visits 2 towns a year in the island province of Bohol, located in central Philippines. Each town has at least one public health official who then refers the clinic to the 15 poorest families in the area.

Children who are dying and in most need of attention are aided immediately. Other illnesses require long-term attention and supplies from the clinic. And others, like these 3, receive surgeries to simply help them live more fruitful lives.

These 3 children were chosen in 2008 for exactly that.

After some difficulties and delays, Gerald and Lester both received their surgeries near the end of 2008. Marjun’s surgery was finally completed in February of 2009!

A young girl named Ednaline was scheduled to have surgery done to her Encephalocele, but her parents cancelled after some difficulty in getting her blood drawn for testing.

Lester Solaritos
Age: 10
Diagnosis: Colostomy

Lester was born with an intestinal obstruction which was surgically corrected with a colostomy. Unfortunately Lester’s family couldn’t afford a closure to his colostomy after years of difficulty and potential health risks. The clinic was able to raise funds to close Lester’s colostomy in 2008.

Gerald Libot
Age: 10
Diagnosis: Facial Deformity

Gerald’s condition required further surgical consultations. He is being provided with multivitamins on a long-term basis. Gerald is the youngest of 4 children. Because of teasing in school, Gerald spent most of his time helping his father in the rice fields.

Marjun (last name withheld)
Age: 8
Diagnosis: Colostomy

Initially, a young girl named Ednaline was scheduled to have surgery done to her Encephalocele, but her parents cancelled after some difficulty in getting her blood drawn for testing. Although discouraging, it meant that Marjun would get an earlier surgery date.

These 3 children are the first of many who are in need of medical attention. With your help, we can change the lives of these children and the communities they live in, one by one.
